NZXT H6 Flow: Why a 420mm Radiator Won’t Fit

The NZXT H6 Flow and H6 Flow RGB do not support a 420mm radiator: their top mounts accept up to 360mm in the 120mm fan format or 280mm in the 140mm format. If you already own the H6 Flow, you can keep it and choose a compatible 360mm cooler. If you already own the 420mm cooler, changing to a case with explicit 420mm support is the straightforward route. These limits concern the H6 Flow chassis, including its RGB version; specifications for other NZXT cases should not be carried across by name alone.
Why the 140mm fan mounts do not mean 420mm support
A 420mm radiator uses three 140mm fan positions in a row. The H6 Flow roof supports only two 140mm fans, although it supports three smaller 120mm fans. That distinction explains why both “supports 140mm fans” and “supports a 360mm radiator” can be true without making a 420mm radiator compatible.

Radiator names also describe a size class rather than the complete metal assembly. For example, ARCTIC specifies the Liquid Freezer III 420 radiator at 458 × 138 × 38mm. Its tanks make it longer than the “420mm” label suggests. Comparing that label with an external case dimension is not a compatibility check: you need the mounting pattern, internal space and clearance for the complete assembly. Keep the H6 Flow: check thickness before buying a 360mm AIO
The less obvious restriction is radiator thickness. NZXT lists 30mm for the H6 Flow’s top radiator clearance in its manual. That is the radiator specification, not a 30mm allowance for the radiator and fans together. A cooler can have the correct 360mm mounting format while exceeding this published thickness limit. - Radiator and fan thickness: compare the radiator body with the published limit, then account for the fans and nearby motherboard components.
- CPU compatibility: confirm the socket bracket, pump-block clearance and required connections for the exact cooler model.
The NZXT Kraken Plus 360, model RL-KN360-B2, is a suitable specification-based choice when you want to retain the H6 Flow. NZXT lists a 401 × 120 × 27mm radiator and three 25mm-thick F120P fans. The drawback is that it remains a 360mm cooler, so it does not preserve a requirement for a 420mm radiator. Its LCD customization also uses NZXT CAM. This recommendation rests on the documented dimensions; it is not a claim that this site installed the combination. There is independent evidence that the H6 Flow can accommodate a demanding system with a 360mm AIO. KitGuru’s Leo Waldock measured 790–800W at the wall during combined Cinebench R23 and Speedway stress testing of an H6 Flow RGB build containing a Core i9-14900K, RTX 4080 and Kraken Elite 360 RGB. That figure is whole-system electrical consumption, not radiator heat dissipation. Keep the 420mm cooler: choose a case with the right mounting position
Consider the NZXT H7 Flow (2024), black model CM-H72FB-01, if you want to retain a 420mm radiator and are happy to mount it at the front. NZXT explicitly lists front radiator support up to 420mm, but the roof still tops out at 360mm or 280mm. Check the generation and model number before ordering. A photograph or listing title that says only “H7 Flow” is insufficient to identify the specification cited here. Also check the cooler’s full dimensions, tube reach and remaining graphics-card space with the front radiator and fans installed. Official support for a radiator size does not promise every possible combination of radiator thickness, fittings and adjacent components.
Can a bracket or case modification rescue the combination?
A fan adapter cannot establish 420mm radiator support in the H6 Flow. Even if it changes which screw holes align, you still need clearance for the radiator body, tanks, fans and tubing. Removing a fan from a 420mm AIO also leaves the same radiator dimensions.
Custom fabrication or an external radiator arrangement is a separate project from installing a supported internal cooler. The documentation cited here does not establish a verified 420mm modification, so there is no supported bracket recommendation to make. For a specific proposed modification, ask NZXT about the exact assembly before buying parts; for a normal build, choose a compatible 360mm cooler or a case that explicitly supports your 420mm radiator.
