How we make recommendations

Every recommendation on this site rests on published specifications and what real owners reported — never on hands-on testing. This page explains exactly what that means, so you can judge how much weight any given article deserves.

Choosing what to write about

Questions come from public discussion forums, where people describe a real problem in their own words. Similar questions are grouped into a canonical form and ranked by how many distinct people asked some version of it. A question hundreds of people have asked gets written about before one that came up once.

Nothing is written to fill a keyword gap. If no one asked it, we do not answer it.

Researching the answer

For each question the pipeline gathers the constraints people actually stated — budget, room size, an injury, an existing device they need to keep — then researches current options against those constraints. Manufacturer specifications, retailer listings and independent measurements are preferred over marketing copy. Every article lists the sources it drew on, and those citations are generated from the material actually consulted rather than added afterwards.

What this process cannot establish

This matters more than anything above, so it is stated plainly:

• Nothing here is physically tested. No product is bought, unboxed, measured or lived with. Claims about build quality, coil whine, panel uniformity, smell, comfort over eight hours or how something survives a year are outside what this process can know.
• Specifications are taken as published. Where a manufacturer overstates a figure, we will repeat it unless an independent measurement contradicts it.
• No article is individually reviewed by a person before it publishes. Automated checks catch structural and factual-consistency problems; they do not catch a confident wrong recommendation.
• Prices and availability go stale immediately. We avoid stating prices for that reason. Check the retailer.

Treat an article here as a well-researched shortlist that saves you the first three hours — then verify anything that would be expensive to get wrong.

How products get chosen

Products are selected to fit the constraints in the question, then linked. Selection happens before linking and is never influenced by commission rate, merchant or program — an item with no affiliate program available is recommended on the same terms as one that pays. We do not accept payment, samples or placement from manufacturers, because accepting them would make the previous sentence untrue.

Where a genuine choice exists between two good options, articles say so and explain which trade-off decides it, rather than manufacturing a single winner. See theaffiliate disclosure for the commercial relationship in full.

Photographs and drawn tiles

Photographs come from one of two places, and never from us. Amazon's own catalogue supplies them while its licence is current; otherwise they come from the manufacturer's own media — the picture Logitech, Dell or Apple publishes of its own product, served from that company's own servers. Hotel photographs are the property's own listing images. No photograph here is generated, staged or composited, and none is ever cropped to flatter.

A manufacturer's photograph is only used when it can be matched to the exact product by that product's own model designation. Where no confident match exists, you get a drawn tile instead of a picture of something else.

Where a product has no photograph, you will see a drawn tile instead: a flat mark naming the brand and indicating the category. These are plainly illustrations, not photographs, and they are never presented as a picture of the item. They exist because Amazon licenses its product imagery for 24 hours at a time through an interface that can stop answering without notice — when that happens the photographs must legally come down, and a tile is what takes their place rather than a blank space.

Corrections and updates

Articles carry the date they were last modified. When a recommendation is superseded, the article is updated rather than quietly deleted.

If something here is wrong — a spec, a discontinued product, a recommendation that does not hold —tell us and it gets corrected. Reports of factual errors are acted on ahead of everything else in the queue.

Who is responsible

The IntentraOps team edits this site. It decides which questions get answered, maintains the process described above, and is accountable for what publishes — including the parts produced automatically.

The byline records accountability, not authorship of every sentence: articles are drafted by the automated process described above, against rules the team sets, and no hands-on testing takes place.
