Logitech G920: How to Switch Between Xbox and PC

The Logitech G920 has no physical Xbox/PC mode switch: move its USB connection to the system you want to use, keeping the wheel’s power adapter connected. Moving your G920 from Xbox to PC, or back

Use this sequence when moving an existing wheel between systems:

1. Close the racing game on the system you are leaving. This avoids disconnecting its active controller during a session.
2. Leave the pedals connected to the wheel base. If you use the Driving Force Shifter, leave that connected to the base too. Those accessories travel with the wheel’s USB connection.
3. Keep the supplied power adapter connected to the wheel and a working outlet. USB and external power serve separate purposes; moving the USB plug does not replace the power connection.
4. Move the wheel’s USB plug from the Xbox to a USB port on the PC, or from the PC to the Xbox. Start with a direct connection.
5. Keep your hands clear during calibration. The wheel turns to both ends of its travel and returns to the centre whenever it connects to a system. Wait until it finishes before driving. G920 user guide
6. On Windows, open G HUB and check detection before launching the game. Select the game’s wheel controls and verify steering, throttle and brake input. On Xbox, launch a game that supports the G920.

There is no normal switching procedure that involves holding a combination of buttons or selecting an Xbox/PC position on the wheel. You also do not need to disconnect the pedals each time you change systems.

The platform switch in other guides belongs to the G29

Logitech’s shared G29/G920 instructions can cause confusion. Its button-programming support page specifically tells G29 owners to put the platform switch in the PS4 position when connecting to a computer. That instruction does not apply to the G920. Logitech’s G29/G920 button instructions

If you are buying a wheel to share between Xbox and Windows, check the model name before ordering:

These platform assignments come from Logitech’s G920 specifications and G29 specifications. Individual games must also support the wheel.

Skip the Logitech G29 if you need one wheel for Xbox and PC: it supports Windows and PlayStation, but has no native Xbox support. Its platform switch does not add Xbox compatibility. The G920 is the appropriate one of these two models for that pairing, although you still have to transfer its USB connection between machines.

If you already own a working G920, buying another wheel provides no necessary fix for platform switching.

Can a USB sharing switch save you unplugging it?

A USB sharing switch is a separate accessory that selects which host receives a connected USB device. It is different from a platform selector on a racing wheel, and it does not add console compatibility.

The useful specification here is buried in Logitech’s technical documentation: the G920 uses USB 2.0 at full speed. A switch advertising faster USB transfer speeds therefore does not, by itself, establish better steering response or successful Xbox operation. Logitech’s Xbox troubleshooting instructions explicitly recommend connecting directly to the console and removing USB hubs or similar devices. That supports direct USB as the starting point; it does not prove every sharing switch is incompatible. Logitech’s Xbox connection checks

No independent measurements were found for a specific G920–USB-switch–Xbox/PC arrangement, so no named sharing switch can be recommended here as a verified solution. Tom’s Hardware’s Kevin Carbotte did independently use the G920 on Xbox One and PC, and documented its permanently attached USB cable, but that review does not establish sharing-switch reliability or latency. If you already have a sharing switch, first establish that the wheel works when connected directly to each system. Then check the switch separately for detection, complete calibration, pedal input and force feedback in a supported game on each host. A working dashboard button alone is insufficient verification. If problems appear only through the switch, remove it before changing drivers or replacing wheel hardware.

When the G920 works on Xbox but disappears on PC

Start with G HUB detection. Logitech’s current G920 specification page names G HUB as its supported software. Older instructions referring to Logitech Gaming Software explain why search results disagree, but they do not reveal a missing hardware selector.

If G HUB cannot see the wheel, connect directly to another PC USB port, reconnect the device and restart G HUB. Logitech also recommends testing an undetected device on another computer to distinguish a device problem from a computer problem. Follow its device-not-detected procedure if those initial checks fail.

If the wheel appears and its inputs respond, but one game ignores it, investigate that game’s wheel support and control assignments next. Replacing the wheel or adding a converter is premature when Windows already receives its inputs. Conversely, successful calibration only shows that the wheel completed its startup movement; it does not establish that the game has selected the correct controls.

On Xbox, test another direct USB port and another supported game. If the wheel still fails on both Xbox and PC after checking power and connections, contact Logitech support for diagnosis and, where appropriate, repair or an RMA. There is no hidden Xbox/PC switch left to try.

If “Switch” means Nintendo Switch

The Logitech G920 does not have native Nintendo Switch support. Its documented platforms are Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Windows. A USB sharing switch cannot change that compatibility list.

Third-party console converters are a separate compatibility question. Before buying one, require explicit support for the G920, your Nintendo console and the intended game, including whether force feedback and pedals work. Xbox/PC compatibility alone is not evidence that a converter will preserve those functions on Nintendo hardware.
