There is also a third legitimate number: 4,655mAh, the rated capacity Motorola documents for the 4,800mAh version. That distinction matters if you are checking a technical document against an advertised specification. It does not automatically mean the battery has deteriorated or that the phone was misdescribed.

Buying the Edge 70: check which regional version it is

For the standard Edge 70, these are the battery and charging specifications Motorola publishes for the two markets:

The Indian model has 200mAh more advertised capacity, approximately 4.2% more than the UK model. That percentage is calculated from the published capacities; it is not a measured improvement in battery life. You cannot turn it directly into extra hours without testing both versions under matching conditions.

If you are buying an imported phone, establish its intended sales region before relying on a specification copied into the listing. The country where you receive the phone does not establish which regional version the seller ships. Ask for the exact manufacturer model or product code and confirmation of the battery specification for that unit.

Also check the complete product name. This answer concerns the Edge 70, without an additional model suffix. A specification for another member of the Edge family should not be treated as an alternative capacity for this phone.

Neither regional version deserves a blanket warning based on these battery figures. Consider the Motorola Edge 70 if you specifically want its slim design with the documented battery capacity; the UK version’s drawback for someone expecting the Indian specification is straightforward—it has 200mAh less advertised capacity. There is no evidence here that this difference alone makes either version a bad purchase.

Seeing 4,655mAh: rated capacity is a different specification

Motorola’s battery footnote explains the distinction precisely. For the 4,800mAh version, typical capacity is 4,800mAh and rated capacity is 4,655mAh. Motorola defines typical capacity as an estimated average across a batch of batteries, based on internal testing. Rated capacity is the minimum guaranteed capacity under controlled conditions. Those numbers describe the same battery specification in two different ways. The 145mAh difference is therefore not evidence that a new phone has already lost charge storage capacity. Calculating battery health by dividing the rated figure by the typical figure would confuse two definitions with an actual measurement of wear.

Keep three questions separate when checking a number:

• Which regional version is it? This explains the documented 4,800mAh versus 5,000mAh distinction.
• Is the number typical or rated capacity? This explains 4,800mAh versus 4,655mAh for the documented UK specification.
• Is it an estimate of the individual battery’s present capacity? That is a battery condition question and requires evidence about that particular phone.

Do not apply the 4,655mAh rated figure to the Indian 5,000mAh version: the cited documentation does not establish that relationship. Likewise, a different number reported by an app needs its own explanation; these specifications cannot confirm what that app is reading. If the supplied phone’s identity and documentation remain inconsistent, ask Motorola support to confirm the specification for its exact model code before buying a replacement battery or returning the handset.

What the capacity means for runtime and charging

Independent testing provides a more useful endurance reference than capacity alone. The browsing result supports considering the slim Edge 70 for ordinary daily use. The much shorter load result also shows why a capacity figure cannot promise the same endurance during demanding use. Neither measurement establishes how long the Indian 5,000mAh version lasts; extending those results to that version would be an inference rather than a test result.

Charging specifications answer a separate question. The 68W wired figure describes supported charging power, while mAh describes battery capacity. A more powerful charger does not increase the phone’s battery size.

Motorola’s charging fine print also qualifies its quick-charge claim: it requires a TurboPower 68W charger, a substantially depleted battery and Charge boost enabled; charging slows as the battery fills.
