What actually changes between Trail Pro and Gravity Pro
Both casings use Schwalbe’s radial construction, where the carcass threads run at a blunter angle than a traditional bias-ply tire, giving roughly 30% more ground contact at the same pressure, according to Schwalbe’s own radial tire page. Where they diverge is reinforcement. That extra layer costs weight. OutdoorGearLab measured a 27.5x2.5 Trail Pro at 1,177 grams and lists Gravity Pro’s stated weight at 1,350 grams in the same size — about a 170-gram difference. Bikerumor’s testing found similar numbers in 29x2.5: Trail Pro sample weights of 1,148 to 1,188 grams against 1,306 grams for Gravity Pro. Schwalbe’s own spec sheet for the 29x2.6 Gravity Pro Albert lists 1,425 grams and a maximum pressure of 2.6 bar (38 psi) (Schwalbe product page).
Where Trail Pro actually gives out at bike park speeds
The failure mode isn’t the tread — it’s the sidewall. When ENDURO Mountainbike Magazine tested the radial Gravity casing directly against Schwalbe’s older bias-ply Super Gravity casing, testers found sidewall stability and rim protection “aren’t quite as good” at matched pressure, and compensated by running roughly 0.1 bar more air in both tires (ENDURO Mountainbike Magazine). That’s with the tougher Gravity casing. Trail Pro, which Schwalbe already flags for reduced puncture protection, gives you less margin before a hard compression on a bike park brake bump or rock strike turns into a pinch flat or a torn sidewall.

A flow-trail bike park — packed dirt, tabletops, no rock gardens — puts less load on a casing than a rock-strewn enduro track. Trail Pro on the rear can survive that kind of day if you run pressure toward the firmer end of your normal range and avoid casing-punishing lines. It’s still the compromise casing, and Schwalbe’s own copy admits it.
If your bike park has rock gardens or repeated hard braking
This is the case the question is really asking about, and it’s where Gravity Pro earns its weight penalty. Testers who put real laps on both casings back-to-back settled on running Trail Pro up front and Gravity Pro in the rear — the front wheel benefits from the lighter casing’s precision and lower rotating weight, while the rear absorbs more impact loading and braking force and benefits from the extra puncture protection (Bikerumor’s review). That split, rather than matching casings front and rear, is the setup to default to unless your riding is aggressive enough on the front end to justify Gravity Pro there too.
When even Gravity Pro isn’t tough enough
